A 45-year-old man facing multiple firearm-related charges has been arrested for breaching his court-ordered bail conditions.
In June 2025, Robert James Cox was granted bail on multiple charges, including pointing a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, possession of a restricted firearm without a licence, carrying a concealed weapon, and contravening a regulation of the Firearms Act. As part of his release, Cox was placed on house arrest and required to reside with his surety at an address in Tecumseh.
The following month, Cox was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order, two counts of mischief under $5,000, and administering a noxious substance.
Cox was again released in November 2025 on strict conditions, including residing at a facility in Chatham or with his surety in Windsor, while being subject to house arrest and electronic monitoring.
In April 2026, Windsor Police bail compliance officers launched an investigation and determined that Cox had breached his release order on three separate occasions.
Shortly after 1 p.m. on April 16, bail compliance officers, in partnership with the OPP-led Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad, located and arrested Cox at a residence in Chatham-Kent.
Cox has been charged with three counts of failing to comply with a release order.
Officers also arrested Cox’s surety, a 45-year-old man, in the area of Tecumseh Road and Huron Church Road. He has been charged with two counts of facilitating a breach of a release order.
A surety is a person who agrees to supervise an accused individual while they are out on bail and ensure they comply with all court-imposed conditions.
The bail compliance officers are part of the Offender Management Unit, a partnership between the Windsor Police Service and LaSalle Police Service to supervise high-risk individuals placed under house arrest, curfew, or electronic monitoring. The Offender Management Unit is supported through a grant from the Government of Ontario, as part of the provincial government’s strategy to strengthen Ontario’s bail system.

COBOURG (April 23, 2026) – Cobourg Police Service is reminding the public to be aware of fraud involving gift cards and impersonation on social media platforms, following a recent incident in which a resident was targeted through an online group. In the most recent scam, a 71-year-old woman reported being contacted on social media by an individual claiming to be associated with a television show after she commented on a fan page for the program. The scammer offered a “VIP membership” in exchange for payment through gift card codes. The victim was defrauded out of $1,200. The victim was later contacted again and advised she could attend the TV set if she deposited the cheque, they sent into her bank account and forwarded the funds. When she attended her financial institution, bank staff recognized the signs of a scam and intervened. The victim had no verifiable contact information for the individual, and all communication occurred exclusively through social media. Cobourg Police Service is reminding residents that legitimate organizations and businesses will never request payment in gift cards, nor will they ask individuals to deposit cheques on their behalf. Be cautious of unsolicited messages on social media, even if they appear to come from well-known individuals, celebrities, or organizations Scammers commonly use gift cards or cryptocurrency because they are difficult to trace and cannot be recovered Never send money, gift card codes, or cryptocurrency to someone you have only interacted with online Do not deposit cheques or forward funds at the request of someone else If an offer sounds too good to be true, it likely is Talk to a trusted family member, friend, or financial institution before sending money Fraudsters rely on pressure and secrecy. Police encourage residents to slow down, ask questions, and report suspicious activity.
